I’m Lachlan Fraser an artist and a photographer who lives in a hillside village overlooking the Blackmore Vale on the borders of Somerset and Dorset. It is a landscape of small fields enclosed by hedges with some magnificent trees which has evolved slowly, and would still be recognised by Thomas Hardy, who described it as the land of little dairies. This unspoilt countryside provides inspiration to many artists and photographers fortunate to live within its boundaries.

I paint mainly in watercolour and take digital photographs with an interest in landscape, natural history and environmental portraiture. I enjoy the adventure of travel, which began in my early career serving in the British Army, and which has taken me to many corners of the world, as some of the photographs in my gallery illustrate.

I believe it’s important to look into a scene rather than at it, to absorb it and to capture its essence and feeling, looking for creative and inventive ways to record it; although there is always a place for ‘picture postcard’ shots in any album.

I hope you enjoy looking through my gallery: many images are available as signed prints; please contact me for details.
